Tree Story

Taking a new stance on the global environmental crisis, TreeStory explores the world of tree-obsessed scientists, activists, artists, musicians, all inspired by a relationship with a single tree, asking the question – can one tree make a difference?

What if a film could alter the way people see and relate to trees. That is the bold vision behind TreeStory. When asked, everyone has a connection to a tree in his or her life. It might be the one they climbed as a child or the one they planted when their child was born, or just the one they walk by everyday on their way to work.  Using this universal shared experience of knowing a tree, TreeStory goes around the world to bring the most dynamic, compelling and surprising stories of people and trees to life.

Trees are our oldest companions on earth. And those companions are under threat worldwide. Environmental degradation has reached the tipping point. From deforestation to development, to consumerism and global warming, one does not have to look too far to be concerned. Every two seconds we lose an area of forest the size of a football field. The greatest threat facing trees and forests however, is our indifference.

Can one tree make a difference?

Can one person make a difference?

Our film asks people to consider one tree in their life. One tree provides enough oxygen for a family of four to live for a year. One tree provides enough wood to build a house. One acre of trees absorbs enough carbon dioxide for a car driven 26,000 miles. What would be the impact of a movement that started a worldwide conversation about our relationship to trees? That is TreeStory’s vision.

Our story highlights a biologist, a mythologist, an artist, a Native American shaman, a logger, and an activist as well as many celebrity musicians and actors. Through their stories of connection to one tree in their life we hope to change the perspective of something that many of us take for granted: a tree. After seeing TreeStory a person will not walk by a tree and see it in the same way again.
